Paediatric 12 Hour Infant / Child First Aid Level 3 (VTQ)™ - Classroom Blended Part 2
Our Paediatric 12 Hour Infant / Child First Aid Level 3 (VTQ)™ course is designed for anyone responsible for the care of babies and children. Delivered using a blended learning format, learners complete the online theory (Part 1) before attending a practical classroom session (Part 2), allowing more time to develop hands-on skills and confidence. This qualification meets the requirements of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework and is suitable for Ofsted-registered childcare settings.

What you will learn
Typical course content includes:
- The role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation safely
- Primary and secondary casualty assessments
- Infant and child CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
- Safe use of an AED on adults, children and infants
- Recovery position
- Choking in babies and children
- Managing an unresponsive infant or child
- Seizures (including febrile convulsions and epilepsy)
- Asthma
- Anaphylaxis and the use of auto-injectors
- Diabetes emergencies
- Meningitis awareness
- Fever and febrile illnesses
- Head injuries
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries
- Cuts, grazes and severe bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Shock
- Poisoning
- Eye, ear and nose injuries
- Bites and stings
- Electric shock
- Extremes of heat and cold
- Accident reporting and infection prevention
By the end of the course
Learners will be able to:
- Recognise and respond confidently to paediatric medical emergencies
- Carry out effective CPR on both infants and children
- Use an AED safely and appropriately
- Manage choking, severe bleeding, burns, fractures and other common childhood injuries
- Respond appropriately to illnesses such as asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures and diabetes
- Provide immediate first aid until the emergency services arrive
- Meet the paediatric first aid requirements for childcare and early years settings

Key Information
The course consists of 12 hours of learning, split between approximately 6 hours of online learning (Part 1) and 6 hours of practical classroom training (Part 2). This flexible approach allows learners to complete the theory at their own pace before attending the practical session. The qualification is valid for 3 years.
