Our Emergency First Aid at Work 7 Hour Level 3 for Rugby Clubs (VTQ)™ course, referred to as EFAWRC, is a ProTrainings CPD certified qualification designed to adhere to HSE guidelines. Tailored for the rugby community, this course equips coaches, players, supporters and background staff with the practical knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to common injuries and medical emergencies that may occur during rugby activities, helping to create a safer sporting environment both on and off the pitch.

Essential first aid skills tailored for the rugby community, covering common on-pitch injuries and life-saving techniques.
What you will learn
Typical course content includes:
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Minimising the risk of infection to self and others
- The need for consent to provide first aid
- Conducting a scene survey and primary survey
- Summoning appropriate assistance
- Managing an unresponsive casualty
- Adult CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
- Safe use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Recovery position
- Seizures
- Choking (mild and severe)
- External bleeding and shock
- Minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bruises and small splinters
- Minor burns and scalds
- Fractures, dislocations, strains and sprains
- Application of support and elevated slings
- Suspected head and spinal injuries
- Eye injuries, including dust and embedded objects
By the end of the course
Learners will be able to:
- Recognise and respond confidently to first aid emergencies on and off the pitch
- Deliver effective CPR and safely use an AED
- Manage choking, severe bleeding and shock
- Provide first aid for suspected fractures, sprains, strains, head and spinal injuries
- Treat minor injuries commonly seen in rugby, including cuts, grazes, bruises and burns
- Place an unresponsive casualty into the recovery position
- Meet HSE recommendations for workplace and sporting first aid provision

The course spans a minimum of 7 contact hours, delivered over a single day. The qualification is valid for 3 years, and learners must attend another EFAW 7-hour course to renew their certification.
